Piracucu not allowed to commerce, elevate, launch to pure surroundings in Vietnam | Ho Chi Minh Metropolis

Piracucu (below the scientific title of ‘Arapaima gigas’) is a freshwater species from South America. A mature fish weighs 200 kilos and is as much as 3 meters lengthy. It primarily feeds on small fish, shrimp, and crab.

Within the home decoration fish market, a piracucu’s value is dependent upon its measurement. A ten-to-70-centimeter fish prices from VND2-10 million (US$85.5-427). Since 2015, these fish have been imported to some Southwest provinces to promote to specialty eating places.

Nevertheless, Director Basic Luan mentioned this fish isn’t on the record of aquatic species permitted for buying and selling in Vietnam. It’d trigger dangerous results to the prevailing native ecosystems if launched into the pure surroundings.

Deputy Director of the Division of Aquatic Assets Conservation and Growth (below the Directorate of Fisheries) shared that the Directorate of Fisheries has already requested inspectors of the HCMC Division of Fisheries to establish the supply to provide piracucu for launch recently within the metropolis.
